Music Ministry

The music ministry is comprised of many individuals who give countless hours each week to lead the community in sung worship each weekend.  We always welcome new members.  For more information please email Mike Zorner at mzorner@stanselm.com or call the parish office.

Adult Choir
The Adult Choir meets on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00pm in the church.  We sing at mass on the first 3 weekends of the month, as well as on All Saints Day, All Souls Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Triduum, Ascension Thursday and Pentecost.  The choir sings from September-June and has the summer months off.  We welcome anyone who is in high school or older to participate in the choir.  No experience is necessary!  We also welcome those to play instruments.

Children’s Choir
The Children’s Choir meets on Thursday afternoons from 4:45-5:45pm during the months of September-May.  We sing at mass on the first Sunday of the month at 11:00am mass and third Sunday of the month at 9:00am mass.  We also sing on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday.  Children in grades 1 through 6 are invited to participate in the choir.

Youth Choir
The Youth Choir meets on Thursdays from 6:00-7:00pm during the months of September-May.  We sing at the 11:00am mass on the first and third Sundays of the month.  We also sing on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday.  Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to participate in the choir.  We also welcome instrumentalists in this group.

Contemporary Ensemble
The Contemporary Ensemble sings at the 5:00pm mass (7:00pm mass in June-August) on the first and third Sundays of the month.  The group meets on the Tuesday evening before each mass to rehearse.

Summer Choir
During the months of July and August our summer choir leads the music at the 9am mass.  The choir is open to members of any of the choirs as well as anyone in the parish.  We rehearse at 8:15 in the Learning Center.  This is a great way to try out the choir without having to make a formal commitment.  Come and try it out one Sunday or for the entire summer.  You just might want to join one of the choirs the following fall!

Cantors
The cantor’s role is to lead congregational singing at masses where there is not a choir.  The cantor also proclaims the Responsorial Psalm and Gospel Acclamation at masses when a choir is singing.  Cantors are typically chosen from within one of the choirs.  An audition and basic training is required to become a cantor.

Instrumentalists
We welcome individuals to play instruments to join the music ministry.  Some examples of instruments that we can include are guitar, bass, drums, flute, clarinet, violin, cello and trumpet.  Typically we ask instrumentalists to have at least two years of playing experience to join the music ministry.

Accompanists
The role of the accompanist is to lead the congregation in song from the piano or the organ.  The accompanists work with our cantors to lead the music each weekend.  We currently have a number of part time accompanists at our parish.
